What to do with your finished product...

Get Professional Packaging

You can’t judge a book by its cover, but people always do. Save some money for professional packaging. It’s hard to justify selling your CD at a normal price without pro packaging. Think about your end product as something you will have for the rest of your life. Good artwork and pro packaging are important. Also, Get more CD’s then you think you need. Telekon Studios recommends Disc Makers (www.discmakers.com).

Promote Yourself

Put together an impressive package to promote to radio, clubs, and labels. Most people don't have the time to read through an extensive press kit. Keep it simple. Include a pitch letter — they'll read it if you keep it short. Tell them who you are and offer to do interviews and benefit shows (if appropriate). Put together a bio with a description of your music style, highlights of major events, info on the band members. Include press clippings if you have them. Most importantly, make sure you have a contact name and number prominently displayed on your press kit and on your CD.

Your promotional mix to attract your audience will often involve a mixture of flyers, posters, websites, email, media support, advertisements, and word of mouth. You should always use the most quality promotion you can realistically afford, and put on the most quality events you can. What will keep people coming back? Sometimes it's the friendships they make. Or they feel they are a relevant part of the community, or they believe in what you are doing. Remember that they come because they want to have fun and meet people. If you can give them free stuff, like stickers and flyers often it will keep you in their minds and help them feel more connected, and keep them coming back.
